Name That Sheep

Dsc04356_1

Please help my Mom with a good name for me since I don't want to be known as Brown Sheep.  Some of her previous pets had names such as Yellow Cat, Black Cat, Blackie and Spotty(Dalmatian) so you can see my dilemma.  I want to let you know a few things about me to help in your name choice.  I am a mixed breed sheep(golden with brown points) born on November 27, 2006.  I love to knit and am knitting a scarf on handmade bamboo knitting needles.

Please leave a comment with your name choice for me and Mom will pick the winner with my help of course.  The contest will end Sunday night at 12:00 CST so get busy.  I am sure Mom will pick out some nice yarn and goodies for the winner.  Have fun!!!

Looks like a Beatrice to me!

Lucy ( as in "in the sky with diamonds) is what sprung to mind the moment I saw her. I can't say it's terribly inventive but there you have it.

Posted by: Julie | Jan 30, 2007 10:16:11 AM

Hmm, maybe Purl?

Posted by: amy | Jan 30, 2007 10:25:01 AM

I think her name is Gianna.

Posted by: Lu | Jan 30, 2007 10:34:55 AM

How about Ovina D'Oro? Ok, so it still means "Gold Sheep" but it sounds more like a name. :)

Oh My...so many come to mind:

Matilda...for some reason she just looks like a Matilda or perhaps Gertrude!!

How about Brown Sugar....and that would be MS. Brown Sugar to you all (she seems to be saying with that cocky tilt to her head and peering down her glasses).

Yep...this sheep has got some attitude with her!!

Sean Sheep? Shauna Sheep?

Posted by: Donna | Jan 30, 2007 2:29:17 PM

Posted by: allena | Jan 30, 2007 3:23:00 PM

How about Lana? (Italian for wool)And you could say it as if you were baa-ing. laaa-naa...laa-naa..

Posted by: Carol | Jan 30, 2007 4:13:40 PM

Hazel? She is a pretty brown color.

Posted by: Debby | Jan 30, 2007 8:10:33 PM

I can't help it, but I think she looks like a cute little Clementine! ;)

Posted by: Dipsy D. | Jan 30, 2007 11:52:34 PM

She looks like a Maude to me :)

Posted by: Christine | Jan 31, 2007 5:05:53 AM

How about Ewe-nice (or the more traditional Eunice)?

Posted by: Jennifer | Jan 31, 2007 5:38:33 AM

Adelaide I'd say
Michelle

OK, I have to go with Julie on this one, Purl just seems to fit her. I was all set to come up with "the perfect name" but as I was reading the other comments, nope, Purl just sticks. So you have two votes for Purl.

Posted by: Tracey | Jan 31, 2007 7:52:58 AM

I thought she looked rather like a Professor, so playing upon earlier suggestions, Professor Purl maybe? But I also think she looks grandmotherly, so how about Grandma Elaine or Oma Elaine (from the French word for wool). Cool contest! :)

How about Purls-ewe?
Ok. It's lame.
But she's adorable.
(((hugs)))

I suggest Mocca Ewe

She's beautiful! I have two ideas: 1. Sunny, 2. Adele.

Woolarina
she kinda looks like a Maude or a Mavis though :)

Posted by: Kelly | Jan 31, 2007 9:14:56 AM

BaaBaa WaWa (You have to be a Gilda Radner fan to get this one!)

Ovis -- Ovis is the "genus" classification for sheep.

Posted by: Anastacia | Jan 31, 2007 10:14:26 AM

Hmm...A golden brown sheep born in November - I'd have to say Topaz for a name ;o)

Posted by: rhelynn | Jan 31, 2007 10:28:45 AM

How about Mrs. Beasley?

Posted by: Crazy For Yarn In Alabama: Darlene | Jan 31, 2007 10:31:18 AM

maybe Mrs. Weasley??

Posted by: keri | Jan 31, 2007 10:48:53 AM

My first thought on seeing her was "Anabelle". But my sheep's name is "Keebler". So then I thought of more cutesy names and came up with an alternative - "Molly Sheepsley".

Shirley.

Posted by: ldymosquito | Jan 31, 2007 11:28:02 AM

She reminds me of the sheep in Alice in Wonderland. I don't think that sheep had a name though, so perhaps you could call her Alice.

Baabara?

Posted by: Just A Knit Wit | Jan 31, 2007 12:11:25 PM

I'm partial to Ewephonia.

Posted by: CindyCindy | Jan 31, 2007 12:11:41 PM

I don't know why, but the minute I looked at the picture Gertie (short for Gertrude) just popped into my head. I can just see her pausing a moment on the scarf to offer a cup of Earl Grey tea to her guest!

Posted by: Su | Jan 31, 2007 1:11:08 PM

Before I even looked at the comments my first choice was Beatrice. I still think that this is my favorite.

Posted by: Kate | Jan 31, 2007 1:58:44 PM

I was thinking Spanish for golden sheep, but see you have that already. How about Gilda (she is kind of gilded, and she does have some Gilda attitude). You've got a selection of great names here!

Posted by: lisa | Jan 31, 2007 4:39:28 PM

How about Latte. (I've got coffee on my mind, obviously.)

Posted by: Sydney | Jan 31, 2007 5:26:58 PM

My stuffed sheep doll that kind of serves as my craft room mascot is called Walter. So now of course I think all stuffed sheep should be called Walter. But maybe Wilma for this one (since it looks more like a girl).

My 7 yr old says cinnamon!
I like Knitty!

If it's a boy: Hewey. (pronounced Huey).
If a girl: Dyelotta.

Sorry for my baaad sense of humor btw.

Posted by: moirae | Feb 1, 2007 7:09:39 AM

The first name that came to mind was Rosalind(an old school chum I haven't thought of for 30 years!) But I'm also partial to Ella!

Posted by: Ella | Feb 1, 2007 8:02:08 AM

"Burnie"...with a "u"...for color and for Auburn.

Posted by: Sandy | Feb 1, 2007 9:42:08 AM

Eudora (or Ewedora)
Southern writer
Also an email management program that was named after Eudora Welty.

Posted by: Melissa | Feb 1, 2007 12:18:00 PM

Why not a guy sheep? I vote for Milo!

Posted by: Eklectika | Feb 1, 2007 4:22:42 PM

How about Brigid? She a celtic healing goddess who's also a spinner. Penelope also springs to mind, she spent her days weaving (or pin knitting according to historians) her shroud by day & unraveling it by night to keep her suiters at bay until Odysseus returned. I always liked that story...

Posted by: Rae | Feb 1, 2007 11:37:40 PM

I heard her whisper "Letitia" - so, that's what I'll suggest!

Posted by: melanie | Feb 2, 2007 9:31:38 PM

How cute is she? She looks like a Calliope to me.

Posted by: Maureen | Feb 3, 2007 8:09:46 AM

Amalie! I just like how it sounds!
